Gerard Van Schelm is the son of Archibald Van Schelm and brother of Alfred Van Schelm and Balthazar Van Schelm. He is the father of Iolanthe Van Schelm, Josje Van Schelm, Chris Van Schelm, and Willem Van Schelm. Unfortunately for Iolanthe, Gerard accrued a large debt at the Le Coq Noir gambling house through gambling. As a result, he had to give consent that Iolanthe would become married to Guy Larouche.[1]

Gerard Van Schelm, has traveled to Richemulot to act as a recruiter for employees and investors for the Van Schelm family business.[1]
