Shipwrecks are very often mass graves. As such, it is not uncommon for them to be haunted by the undead. Incorporeal undead such as geists and ghosts may linger for centuries, even as planks and nails disintegrate to nothing. Whereas corporeal undead such as sea zombies rarely are so long "lived."
