The Fir are one of the nine major Arak races[1]. They are highly skilled in engineering, tinkering, and inventing various mechanical and clockwork devices[2][3], some even able to create artificial facsimiles of various small living creatures.[3]
As with the other Arak, fir dwell within the Shadow Rift, where they make up about two percent of the population.[4].
Appearance
In their true forms, the fire have appearances reminiscent in size and form of human babies with claws in place of normal fingernails. Fir of the Seelie Court have pale skin, thin frames, and long shimmery hair; Fir of the Unseelie Court have gray and ashen skin, chunkier frames, and mostly bald heads. Regardless of their Court affiliation, fir demonstrate an otherworldly, even disturbing strangeness in their mannerisms and behavior.[3]
Fir may transform into hedgehogs[2] or other rodents[3], their preferences shaped by their Court affiliation. Fir may also employ Alter Self as a spell-like ability.[3]
Combat
Fir usually seek to avoid direct combat if at all possible. When engaging in combat, they utilize strategies based on traps and their other creations.[3]
A fir may beguile a foe with a gaze, causing either a charm[2][5] or fear[5] effect. Fir speaking about their creations can cause magical confusion in those who listen.[2][5]
Firs have minor spellcasting abilities[2][5] as cleric[2] or sorcerer[5].Fir always use material components for their spells, which take the form odd wind-up inventions.[5]
Fir have a physical resilience against most weapons, save those made of tin or of sufficient magical power. They have total immunity to cold and damage from stone weapons. However, fir share the common Arak vulnerability to sunlight.[2][5]
Language
The fir do not have their own breed-specific tongue but they know the native language of all Arak[2]
Advancement
Brag advance by character class. They favor the sorcerer and demonstrate a preference for item creation feats.[5]
The Fir and the Faerie Courts
Fir may belong to the Seelie Court or the Unseelie Court. In the former, they are predominantly Neutral Good and are also known as tolly-knocks. Unseelie fir are predominantly Neutral Evil and are also known as gremlins.[6] The fir sense of humor is strange enough to be off-putting to other Arak.
The Fir and Mortals
Once in a while, a fir might go out to take mortal-made tools, components, or small devices.[2] (Good fir usually try to deliver recompense.[7]) A fir may seek to transform an exceptional craftsperson or engineer into a firkin.[2]

Descriptive Text
"My blood froze in my viens as I saw the creatures surounding Ashlein's pale form. Her life bood stained the long delecate fingers of the child-like beings and their large heads nodded in silent agreement as they dug deeper into the gaping wound. I could see flashes of silver and copper as their fingers flew over the tattered remains of her heart. After several agonizing moments the creatures pulled back and I could hear a faint ticking of moving parts and the bitter sweet sound of Ashlein's moans..."
