The Mordenheim family comprises of Dr. Victor Mordenheim and his relatives, including his wife Elise and adopted daughter Eva Mordenheim. The Mordenheims are a noble family of Lamordia dating back to long before its formation as a Ravenloft domain. Prior to the game sourcebook Legacy of the Blood: Great Families of the Core, little was known about the family other than Victor's immediate family. Dr. Mordenhheim and Elise were unable to sire children and therefore produce natural heirs, and their adopted child Eva disappeared, seemingly deceased, after Elise attacked Adam and Adam dropped Eva from Schloss Mordenheim. Adam flew into a horrible rage and left Elise a bloody mess. Dr. Mordenheim works to this day to restore Elise, cursed by the Dark Powers to never succeed but never released from his work because they have ensured Elise will never perish.^[1]

The possibility of playing as relatives of Dr. Mordenheim, albeit as the distant descendants of his siblings or other relatives, is introduced in Legacy of the Blood. Despite not being direct descendants of Victor, other Mordenheims are usually coldly rational and aloof, preferring to avoid emotion save for the ironic devotion or even obsession for knowledge. Despite their supposedly emotionless demeanor, a Mordenheim often has quite strong opinions and pride to back it up, eliminating many chances for social interaction. The actions of Victor Mordenheim has motivated the gods to curse not only him but his entire family tree, a curse of godlessness that prevents any Mordenheim from ever selecting levels in a divine spellcaster class. For their part, the Mordenheims almost universally eschew religion and mysticism for science and logic. Instead of magic, Mordenheims usually rely on technology and can, like Victor, create a number ofs using the Create Device and other similar feats given in LotB.^[2]
