Hmmm....so only Alain actually left the room? Okey dokey....

Alll of you may act. Everyone in the tower is effectively blind in the pitch black, except Norzak.

Alain, standing outside, sees the grapnel tossed out and the windows snap shut. He can see an open window on the fourth floor- but that's a bit of a climb.

After casting that spell he goes back down the rope safely and quickly as possible . When he gets to the ground he makes sure to move to spot that want be hit by someone or something falling through the window .

I want to use Dark Knowledge: Tactics to give the party some buffs. Sadly, with my crossbow destroyed and my spiritual weapon cast and gone, my offensive capabilities are somewhat diminished.

13 on the dice roll, apply whatever knowledge modifier applies.

Dark Knowledge-

Benn recalls reading about ''tectonic spirits'' that can be summoned or controlled by arcanists. These entities exist wholly in the etherium , having no effective incorporeal form. To effect the material world, they build themselves bodies out of loose materials at hand: bricks, wood, chunks of glass, trash, etc. These spirits are typically malignant, but not very bright, and can be commanded by a strong-willed summoner.

To counter a tectonic spirit, one has several options:

a] A cleric or holy man may attempt to turn them aside with the power of his faith; although this is hardly a foolproof method.

b] The physical puppet body may be destroyed by whatever means appropriate to the materials in question [burning, crushing, etc]. This won't destroy the enitity, however, and it may come back at a later time with a new body.

c] Assault the spirit directly with magic that will effect ethereal creatures. This can destroy the entity.

COMBAT NOTES-

before fight- Benn casts Shield of Faith.

Round one-
room goes dark [combat begins, monster has inititiave]
monster smashes Norzak against wall
Norzak shoots MM at monster
Alain climbs up wall and casts Light on window shutters [still closed]- allows party to actually see monster
Dorgio casts Light of Mercuria
Benn uses Dark Knowledge [bennies applies only next round- and Benn needs to shout our some advice for his buddies, or something]

Round Two
monster swings at Dorgio, misses
Norzak zaps it again with his MM

Alain is looking and listen for anything or persons that may try to sneak up on him or the party in the process having his pistol ready to shoot any bad things that come out of the wood work .

So...he's pretty much hanging around the outside of the castle, near the base of the tower, keeping an eye out for trouble. Benn, Cirdan, and Norzak are upstairs in the tower and out of Alain's sight [and vice versa] fighting the big monster.

Buckman and Jon have both run away into the woods.

Just clarifying this.

I just posted an action for Cirdan [he lost his first round action on the first round to a failed fear check, in case anyone was wondering

Note on fear/horror checks- I use these sparingly, and if I feel the roleplaying is such that checks are unnecessary, I don't ask for rolls. I do roll for you when your PC is temporarily under DM control [for example, you are out for exams or your internet service is down and you let me know that].

Backing away from the creature, using Dark Knowledge:Tactics (+1 to everyone's attack rolls, not that we need them for magic missle) and looking around for something sturdy to use as a simple weaon if the worst should happen.

Spending one of the Light of Mercuria bolts. Rolled an 18 for attack, 14 for damage (7 if for some reason it doesn't count as undead or an outsider).
