That seemed fun until the end, indeed. That you guys for sharing all this with us.
Side question: the father of S's turned-to-ghoul daughter is unknown?

Details from the internal outline:
S was married off in an arranged marriage to a rather meek, if rich,
Darkonian husband who knew better than to interfere with her research.
He's out of the picture now and unmissed.

I know I haven't posted much (if anything) in this thread, my brain being nowhere near clever enough to unravel this scheme, but I have to say, impressive[/i.

What is the dire cost to Darkon? Azalin can't command the dead to defend the borders when out of the sight of the Dark Powers? And how is this related, or even unrelated, to the dire fate awaiting Borca? Does Mallochio carry Drakov onto the fields of wars in Darkon and Borca?

Never developed, really. John had the mental image of Azalin picking an infant Irik up from among some ruins, but I don't believe they ever worked out the details.cure wrote:What is the dire cost to Darkon? No, he's just able to lead the armies in Borca himself, IIRC, meaning that he's be able to smash Ivan personally--and in a toe-to-toe fight, Borca's not able to field anyone who could match Malocchio. In addition, his charisma and supernatural powers would probably go far to weaken what Borca has for defense. This is, however, my extrapolation. And how is this related, or even unrelated, to the dire fate awaiting Borca? Does Mallochio carry Drakov onto the fields of wars in Darkon and Borca?

And I just got a mental image of the DPs -- and S, whom he'd probably allow to die in childbirth like his first wife-- getting a last laugh at the big A, when he holds up that hard-sought newborn cloned heir -- his triumph, his hope, his last chance to re-make Irik into the king his father always wanted him to be -- and the cloth the infant is wrapped in falls aside...Matthew L. ...and he sees that it's a girl. Like mother, like child.

Now that is hysterical!Rotipher of the FoS wrote:...and he sees that it's a girl. Like mother, like child.
Personally, I would see that going about the same as it did before. Azalin gets over on the DPs and gets Irik back ... and Irik lives to "disappoint" his father again. For all Azalin's work, Irik is still the same person he was before. That's the tragedy...

That was, generally, how John expected it to play out if Azalin had won (which was the outcome he was inclined to if they'd carried the metaplot past the Gazetteers).DilisnyaRevenge wrote:

To Irik himself, it wouldn't matter at all. To Azalin -- a confirmed sexist who couldn't stand it if his heir didn't exactly match his image of the "ideal king" -- it'd be yet another defect, on par with Irik's having had a gentle nature in his first life. Furthermore, it'd rub his nose in the fact that, no matter what the Big A does, part of Irik will always take after his (her?) mother, rather than being the carbon-copy of himself that the lich desires for a child.

Thank you so much for sharing this Matthew! (and John, and the rest of the Kargatane for letting you.) Great to see all this revealed finally!
It's a bit bittersweet to think that it's nor 763BC and this would have all wrapped up in 762. If the line hadn't been cancelled, we'd have had Gaz13 in our hands last year. (Also interesting how prophetic John's prediction of 4e was, too. He predicted the right year exactly.)
Time to update the FAQ, it seems.

I have a question. There are few, let's say stranger domains, like the Wildlands, Scaena, Odaire, and Vechor. S's travels into those domains really interests me.
To harbor a guess: we know S would have visited the islands within the seas of the Core next, presumably ending in Vechor, where I would assume is where she is told she would be continuing by entering that domain's misty border, since we know that the NPC ship and crew are not needed again after Gaz VIII. Just my presumptions of a course of events.
Would we see these stranger domains? I can see a reason for skipping the ones without humans in it, as there would be no GC children for Azalin to take advantage of, but that is kind of a meta-reason, as Azalin wouldn't KNOW there were no people in the Wildlands, for example. And heck, maybe a Gentleman Caller child COULD be from the Wildlands, wouldn't that be interesting? A part-fiend awakened animal?
I'm getting off topic with too much conjecture. I'll leave this there. Thanks for sharing with us, Mr. Martin, as well as the rest of the Kargatane! But your not off the hook yet, we still have possibly 9 more children to learn about, if nothing else.

The actual plan for the ship was to have S continue on board through both of the Core's seas (Gaz VI & VII), then continue on into the Mists. In Gaz VII, moves into the Clusters, with S first appearing in Saragoss. She would then abandon the ship and the rest of the crew in a scheme to escape into Sri Raji.
In so much as the Gaz's are as much about S as the future of Land of Mists, what development was planned for her? We know she takes her own life to spite Azalin and assert mastery over her own existence. One might see in this a revised vision of knowledge and its worth, which ultimately implies something of a change in morality. But are there other changes? Does she accept and come to terms with any of the evils of her past actions? Is there any redemption for these? Or alternatively, does her evil deepen and she becomes a prime candidate for Powers Checks?
