Well, from my point of view, I saw the paranormal romance boom as how the mainstream portray dark fantasy. It is rare that something like literary current escape unmodified when it came to the mass media. And this is not neccessarly a bad thing since it allow more people to be in contact with said current.Brandi wrote:I don't see so much a dark fantasy boom as a paranormal romance boom, which I assume are not the same thing as far as the OP's concerned.

True, it does expose more folks. But the stuff they're used to is watered down compared to horror fantasy like Ravenloft. To me, "dark" is a term used to describe something that merely explores the darkness. "Horror" entails plunging into said darkness head first and being confronted by things we find cruel, repulsive, and/or terrifying. Kind of like the evening news.Scipion_Emilien wrote:Well, from my point of view, I saw the paranormal romance boom as how the mainstream portray dark fantasy.
