He is now outside the courthouse, in the street. Still chained and surrounded by armed men, of course.

Unfortunately, now I'm hearing the Orpheus voice every time he talks, which makes it difficult to explain to my coworkers why I'm snickering at my computer.

Though I'm all for player character death , it seems that Galandal's punishment is happening too swiftly. Legal hangings in the wild west didn't go this fast (I know for sure since I just watched a killer episode of wild west tech on the history channel that was all about hanging). I'm sure that the guards would want to prove they weren't the callous savages the elf was trying to paint them as by going straight from the courtroom to the gallows. Does he get a priest for confession? does he get a final meal? I thought I read something about an appeal to the higher courts being an option.

Just saying...my character wasn't at court, he was thinking about his sweet sweet raven handled knife.

Several points:
Don't think of the Old West, think something more like late medieval France. This is not the the US justice system. Death, maiming, branding, corporal punishment, and fines are far more common than long prison terms. There are few prisons designed to hold large populations of criminals for long periods of time. Gaols and dungeons tend to be short term only, with a few exceptions. Laws are not equal for all people, not even on paper. Torture is legal under certain narrowly defined circumstances.
The accused have fewer legal rights than in our system.



The guards don't much care if the elf thinks they are callous savages. He's a subhuman freak that killed their comrades, and they won't lose any sleep over his moral approbation.

He will get a priest, of course. If he refuses, so be it.

Benn's threats of using corrupt political influence prompted Captain Thibault to go a certain hard-ass 'hanging judge.' Thibault is very worried that the elf might escape justice, because of Benn's 'powerful friends.' A hanged elvish murderer can be presented to the Council as a fait accompli, but a live prisoner might yet be freed by bribery/corruption, or escape with the help of his professional killer buddies. Now that Benn seems to have given up on helping the elf, Thibault is a bit relieved. He'll be nervous until the elf is dead, though.

When I made Bennedict, my intention for him was to be a morally ambiguous bookseller, sort of like Johnny Depp in the Ninth Gate. However since then, he's developed this nagging conscience that makes me somewhat hesitant to summon DEMONS.
