Never mind. The Google Gods shined brightly upon me just now. I found it here... http://lazy.ly/SRUn#AC2, which I hope is legal. If it's not, I'll remove this post so nobody else happens to stumble upon something they shouldn't be.

I don't want to open another post just for a simple question. So since I was looking for van Richten's character sheet I went here, but then I realized that I have no clue about what his actual story is. Is there any place where I could read his story/biography/something (without having to read all his books )?

For a more flavor-based version, there's a summary in the article "History Check: Strahd and Van Richten" from Dragon Magazine #416, but it's from the 4e era, so it glosses over or omits a lot of the later stuff (including his "demise") and focuses on his origin story for the most part.
"We're realistic heroes. We're not here to save the world, just nudge the world into a better place."
Interestingly, there was an official Van Richten 3E stat block made for an official 3E product. But I don't think most people here on this site would like it:

In addition to the unofficial timeline, Van Richten's Arsenal presents the doctor's biography as its introduction.

That's true.. I think we can generously say that's an ... alternate Van Richten from the one we usually think of. (maybe that version is played by Hugh Jackman. )

So you're saying it's a version that turns himself into a werewolf to rescue Adam and fight Strahd?
