I held up 4 fingers, and you saw 5 fingers because that is what I wanted you to see. Imagine this on a mass scale. Millions of people subject to hypnosis, their very perceptions of objective reality rendered subjective. This is the situation that we are in now, I believe, and I am subject to it also - not quite as much as you, my dear, of course. Through my own efforts I have been able to remove some of truth's protective layers. In time I will be able to see, and thus manipulate, the very stuff of reality itself".
Neat! You know, this could make for an interesting plot hook, actually, if D'Honaire was using his Obedients in power (e.g., the Council of Brilliance) to guide society into a state whereupon D'Honaire is freed from his curse or otherwise benefited through the subtle manipulation of the beliefs of the people (and thus the total sociocultural psychic zeitgeist). For example, uses Claude LaGrange and his Societe de Legerdemain as puppets for gathering occultic knowledge relevant to this goal. Even Jean-Pierre Theroux could get in onto the act by weeding out or encouraging artworks that discourage or encourage thoughts and feelings favorable to the collective unconscious Dominic is trying to create. Domonic's goals of rewriting reality could have interesting implications when it comes to interactions with the Fraternity of Shadows.
