Using the Apparatus, how many ways can a person be split? The Rod of Rastinon can (correct me if I am wrong) split a person between diametric opposites like Good-Evil, Law-Chaos. What other splits are possible?
The Good-Evil split removed Strahds vampire curse, creating the good human alchemist, and the purely evil vampire "monster".
Who else might benefit from the Apparatus? Tristen Hiregaard seems like an obvious example.

"benefit" might not be the right term for this one, but: it could be a way to deal with Toben the Many for good, if you could somehow round up all his bodies and force them back into one.

A few noncanonical speculative ideas:
One interesting potential use might be affecting those afflicted with multiple personalities or possession. It would be interesting if Easan could use it to (or believed he could use it to) separate his "fiendish" personality from his "sane" one, especially if he tried to create a special Rod of Rastinon himself given his interest in soul transference. Similarly, it might be interesting to try to separate a person who has partially undergone fiendish transposition.
Also might be interesting is lycanthropy or lycanthrope like beings, to separate the human from the bestial sides. Von Harkov might have use for such experimentation.

Yeah, for apparatus ideas in general, look to Star Trek's various transporter accident episodes....
The Enemy Within - Kirk splits into a good side and evil side. (Alchemist Strahd, Hiregaard, Easan)
Mirror, Mirror - Kirk travels to an alternate universe (an Azalin scheme?)
Rascals - Picard, Guinan, Ro, and Keiko get turned into children (Maligno turning adults into children to bring them under his sway? Alternatively, he uses it to become a "real boy" himself by putting his soul in a real kid's body, or Ivana is suddenly aging normally and wants to restore her agelessness.)
Tuvix - Tuvok and Neelix get fused into one being. (??)
Daedalus - a transporter scientist becomes a "ghost" (Godefroy or another ghost tries the reverse?)
Second Chances - Riker leaves behind a duplicate of himself who leads a branching life, showing what might have been (?)

That idea is pure gold.

Mmmm, I think I'll make the Apparatus a joint invention of Mordenheim and Azalin and currently in the mad doctor's hand.

I just have to comment. Genius!Gonzoron of the FoS wrote:"benefit" might not be the right term for this one, but: it could be a way to deal with Toben the Many for good, if you could somehow round up all his bodies and force them back into one.
