Psionics in the Realm of Dread

Post by Teravala »

Does anyone have experience with either playing a psionicist, or running a game for players who are utilizing psionics in their game?

I'm specifically looking for alternative rules for their "powers checks" (3.5 added class specific weaknesses to lure characters to failing powers checks) and I've been thinking of incorporating something to do with Bluetspur and the Illithids there, perhaps utilizing the transposition rules that exist for friends? The general idea is that psionic characters run the risk of attracting not the Dark Powers attention, but the attention of the God brain, and being slowly pulled out of their reality into Bluetspur. (I vaguely remember reading something along these lines a while ago, but sadly cannot locate the source book/netzine/article or whatever it was, and so am trying to recreate it from my fractured memory.

I'm also curious about Psicrystals, and if people treat them as another dread companion, or if they utilize any altered rules or characteristics. I especially was intrigued by the idea of elemental envoys (from the complete psionics handbook) and rather than fire/earth/air/ice based elementals, utilizing the pyre/grave/mist/(frozen) blood elemental variants that are specific to RL.

If anyone has messed around with this before, I'd love some insight into literally anything to do with psionics in RL, and am thinking of tinkering around with the envoys to create Dread Envoys, if anyone would be interested in seeing some stats for them, or has any suggestions for their adaptation.

The quote in your signature definitely checks out. Thank you again Meph! I literally looked for like 2 hours for that exact thing.

There was also a short story about this I believe, but since I have lost more of my files I can't find how it was called to post the link here. I believe it was posted on the WoC site some decades ago.
