Post by Faust »

What level would a spell that allow the target to feign death should be? Keep in mind that the spell should last long enough to escpare the central prison in flakovnia...

Um well in the older editions there was a spell called feign death but it so seldom worked I think it was hardly used so this is what I have come up with for you.

Feign Death

Necromancy
Level: Cleric 2/Wizard/sorc 3
component V,S,M
Casting time standard action
Range target within 100 + 10 feet per level
area: target
Duration: 1 hour per level
saving throw Will negates
spell resistance yes

feign death allows the recepient to appear as though dead to all eyes.

When the spell is cast the target appears to die but has full awarness but is unable to move or react to any situation unless a Will save is made. Also the spell can be "seen" through with a sucessful discern motive (or other appropriate ability) of DC 20 + caster level.

Ther it is a little raw see what others can do with it or yourself. I wrote it up real quick so it's far from perfect.
Vote Cthulhu! At least then we know we are going to get screwed.

Your better off using a non magical way to feign death. A correctly administered dose of puffer fish venom or other nurotoxin would render a person fuctionaly dead to the casual observer (taking into account the prison dosn't have advanced medical equipment) untill a antidote is administered.

As a someone who's character was personally fooled by a feign death spell in 2e that reulted in a presumed dead wizard walking off with all our stuff in the middle of the night, I can assure you it's a spell that works. ONCE. After that, we chopped off heads, just to be sure.
