Far too lazy to read everybody else's offerings, so here's my list-
1- 12 Monkeys. For the manner in which it delves into subjective insanity. A good Scaenean kernel of information, needing only a little TLC to make work like a charm.
2- The Conqueror Worm. Hoo boy. Go Vincent Price.
3- The Fog. Not the greatest film, but has some very useful approaches to ghosts... or zombies. Or whatever.
4- The Ring and Ringu. I prefer the U.S. version, but either makes a magnificent ghost yarn.
5- Ju-On. NOT, for the love of all that is good in life, The Grudge. Ju-On.
6- Ravenous. Fun, fun, fun.
7- Ran- Mostly for Rokushima Taiyoo, but also a good how-to guide on subtle, sneaky, physically weak villains.
8- Amadeus. Wanna gaslight somebody? Watch this flick.
9- The Name of the Rose. I don't like it as much as some others here, but it's quite useful.
10- Van Helsing. What NOT TO DO.
11- The Red Violin. Come for the cursed instrument. Stay for the cues on investigation and creation of "magic" items.
12- The Brotherhood of the Wolf. Fun, fun, fun. And it even has a climactic swordfight.
13- The Seven Samurai. Mandatory for any D&D setting.
14- Frailty. Who's doing the right thing? Hrrrrrmmm...
15- Batman Begins. Use the League of Shadows. Go on, you know you want to.
16- Apocalypse Now. Either Willard or Kurtz can be all sorts of fun in the proper proportions.

I don't know about LXG, if you wanted to run a more action based game, perhaps it would be appropriate. The comics are certainly more appropriate.Wiccy of the Fraternity wrote:Dark Water (not the recent remake)

Thje comics are far more appropriate for GE, I just find the movie doesn't suit the feel of the setting all that well.Drinnik Shoehorn wrote:I don't know about LXG, if you wanted to run a more action based game, perhaps it would be appropriate. The comics are certainly more appropriate.

But there are elements you can take and put in a GE game, Dorian Grey, for example.Wiccy of the Fraternity wrote:Thje comics are far more appropriate for GE, I just find the movie doesn't suit the feel of the setting all that well.Drinnik Shoehorn wrote:I don't know about LXG, if you wanted to run a more action based game, perhaps it would be appropriate. Again, I think the atmosphere is perfect, until they leave Dorian's house by the river. Then the film gets a bit "ugh."Cole Deschain wrote:True, but that craptious pile of celluloid filth hardly handled atmosphere properly...

And I am still working on the GE Dorian Grey along with lots of other goodies for GE, everyone just has to be patient and wait until my pc is put back together and hooked up to the net for me to finish them.

For those who suggested The Fog, you may (or may not) be pleased to hear that it is getting a remake.3- The Fog. Not the greatest film, but has some very useful approaches to ghosts... or zombies. Or whatever.

So I did get it, watched it, still don't remember it, but generally enjoyed it. I found the inferences about homosexual pedophilia personally distastful, but it didn't detract from the storyline, and really did add to the general feeling of unease at the monastary. The death of the Inquistor was fairly gratuitous. I enjoyed watching the DVD bonuses, including the German documentary on the making of the film. I can see this story being set in Dementlieu, Richmulot, or (most likely) Borca pretty easily.Catman Jim wrote:OK, that makes about the gazillionth time someone has recommended this movie, and I don't remember it.Rucht Lilavivat wrote:(3) The Name of the Rose
The movie would be another perfect image of Ravenloft ...I know I saw it when it came out in the mid-80's but I have no recollection of it. I just now did a 'Buy-It-Now' for a DVD on Ebay for it, so maybe this next week I will be able to see it (again). I saw the book on the Summer Reading discount shelves at my local Borders today, but after flipping through it, I think I'll wait and see what I think of the film.
