Bloodrayne

Post by Jester of the FoS »

So it's a video game featuring a character named in the style of Rob Liefeld whose notable claim-to-fame was having the first digital character to pose topless in PlayBoy.
Now it's a movie directed by the notorious Uwe Boll who somehow continues to get projects and get notable actors to work with him (my vote is satanic pact).

Teaser and Trailer are up here:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/bloodrayne/

My only thoughts are summed up with: "...my god..."
Both look like they were done and edited by an amateur; I've seen B movies of better quality. I almost went to a theatre manager and asked for my money back, just from watching these trailers at home. It somehow actually lowers the concept of video games being turned into movies. I mean comic books-to-movies have a high success ration than video games and this strikes and all time low.
I mean, wow, that is some bad stuff...

Starring BEN KINGSLEY?! I had thought that he'd do better stuff after all his award-winning perfomances! :?

Tax loophole, actually-- German movie studios used to be able to write failed films off on their taxes. Supposedly this loophole has been closed, so Uwe may have to find other countries who can use his lack of talent. (see his Wikipedia entry)

I can't get the trailer to play for some reason, but just the poster makes me suspicious. This wasn't a particularly creative story anyway, and I think it should NEVER have been adapted to a movie, especially not by an incompetent like Uwe Boll.

Funny thing about Boll is, that when you listen to the commentary tracks on the DVDs, he seems absolutely convinced that he's creating high art, and that if people don't like the films, it must be the actors' fault.

We have the poster for Bloodrayne at my theater, but no trailers for it yet....

House of the Dead sucked and had nothing whatsoever to do with the video games.... not a good sign....

Well, maybe they'll still be something about vampires/dhampires worth stripmining for rabid fans... assuming that they didn't already just take it from the videogame itself...

....this movie's gonna suck harder than a starving Dracula, isn't it?

Pardon a question from a Bloodrayne novice, but...
Wasn't the first game supposed to be about fightin' nazis?

I mean, wasn't BloodRayne supposed to be set in the modern age, kind of like a Hellboy pulpy subject matter presented with a modern matrixy theme?

What the hell does this medieval era have to do with the series?
And why are the vampires in the trailor so obviously ripped off of Buffy's big-head vampires?

Yes. As Rayne, you ran around knocking off members of a paranormal-Nazi group that was looking for some sort of power. It's been a long time since I played so I forget the details.

Because Uwe Boll sucks?

It's going to suck harder than Dracula's vampiric vacuum cleaner.

You can't really expect much else from a director who's made such winners as House of the Dead

I know that the original game was made by Terminal Reality, right? They did a similar-set game for PC, Nocturne... same universe as that? I'd heard that a Nocturne movie was in the works, but that was several years ago...

Thats a shame. I loved Nocturne, for its 1930's theme more than its gameplay. I think it might translate well into a movie - assuming Uwe Boll was kept away from it.

Oh yeah.. the controls were bad and the game itself wasn't much more than a cheap Resident Evil knockoff in its gameplay.. but it had style and plot, oozed coolness, and had a good set of characters, as well as a delightful bit of dark wit.

..and zombie hookers...

..and frankenmobsters...
