Hi all, haven't posted in a while since I didn't play RL in a while but here's the event of a game I ran unspectedly.
The players are in a village they visited a in game year ago and that was infested by vampires who worshiped some mysterious Madone in the woods. They had fled the village wowing to return with lots of stakes!
Now they returned and found out that the vampires had left except for one who remained and still held the villagers under his sway. They managed to fight and burn him to the ground. That's where I stopped since september and where I've picked up.

De retour dans les Brumes, enfin!
The main elven ranger PC, his human female companion and an odd gnome ally tried to find clues to where the rest of the vampiric cult could have gone. Especially since they took a still living thrall with them. Unable to find anything, they decided to leave and go back to their loved ones. But before, the woman decided to investigate one last time the thrall's parents home. They only found an odd potion of strange red colour. Similar to blood, but not blood.
Letting her temptation overrun her, she took one sip. It was small enough not to give her any ill effects, but still she became addicted. Now, the ranger decided to take with him this strange bottle. While they were gearing back up, the woman began odd experiments where she tasted animal blood drops to see if it was really blood she drank.
The ranger confronted her and convinced her to stop this odd behavior. Then the trio left for home. While they stopped at an Inn on the Old Svalich road, the ranger kept the bottle safely in his backpack, not leaving his friend anyware near it and then they went to bed.
During the night, a knock was heard on the woman's door who woke up. She opened and only saw the red potion lying beneath her. She took it carefully, wandering what it was doing there. After longs moments of hesitation, she took a drop again. This time she felt something. It was pure pleasure to feel it go down her throat and spreading into her body. Then the world started spinning around her. With an uneven step, she managed to reach the elve's door and got him to open it.
She confessed how she felt and gave back the bottle but oddly, she never said she took another drop of it. Beginning to understand what his friend had drank, the elf was about to take his stake. That's when she saw a figure, an eery woman silently wandering behind her companion. Wolves began howling, never a good thing in Barovia. The wind also suddenly turned towards the East.
After waking up the gnome who said he had no idea how the bottle came out of the elve's bag, they stood guard by their oddly behaving friend. The elf had spilt the rest of the potion on the ground, making sure she wouldn't drink anymore of it again.
In the morning, they discovered that not only she was acting strangely, denying that she took the potion and talking about the vision of a woman in the night. Also, her features were suddenly healed of all her battle scares. She talked with more assurance than before and her physical skills seemed to have greatly improved overnight. Something was quite wrong. Also, wolves watched her from afar, like guardian angels watching over her.
Let's hope I get to play the rest soon!

De retour dans les Brumes, enfin!
It's basically an high level campaign by RL standards (10th level) but I still managed to create a great mood. The PC who drank the blood was really good at putting his character into trouble. The elven PC was really about to stake him! His character has been driving quite nuts lately and it doesn't take much for him to take dramatic action.
What they don't know is that it's the gnome who took the bottle from the bag and gave it to the woman. He's obsessed with death in order to bring back his dead son from the grave. He's actually a necromancer and thought this experiment would be worth it.
Gamewise, she took vampiric blood and became a thrall of the vampire Madone that was in the village. Also, I decided it worked like the coins in Pirates of the Caribean and summoned her to her new thrall. The Matrone will actually send in her spawns to get the PC back to the main cult now in Vaasa.

That's a nice way to get a PC attached to a vampire...I like it!
Letting their own curiousity get the best of them. I especially like how the character's backgrounds affect their internal relationships, i.e. the gnome consciously giving the vampiric blood to his companion, to help himself. I'm sure there were some great moments in that game. Let us know how it continues!
"Listen to them, children of the night! What music they make."
