I dunno why, but I didn't find it that funny. I guess it's because my friends and I once made a video around the same idea and we used pretty similar themes (although I must confess, we didn't manage to get any girls actually to join in, though in my defence we were 14 and we didn't really know any girls at that time).

Stereotype-o-ramma. Wow, if it wasn't for all the D&D references I'd assume it was done by a couple of straights. The lack of social skills, the constant nerd references, the Satanist condemning parents, the homoeroticism, the awkward high school phase... I recognize the immature style of gaming that is essentially wish fulfilment (violence and sex), like most gamers I went through it early on. But I grew out of it before I left my teens.
Women game. Well-adjusted people game. Normal people LARD (especially Vampire). Gamers often have real relationships with real women (I’m moving in with my GF in late-spring/early-summer).
It might have kinda/sorta been funny back in the ‘80s, but not now. Not with 30 years of D&D and millions of people having grown up with the game. I mean, Vin Diesel plays D&D. Not my favourite actor by *any* stretch but not some chubby or skinny geek.
Are there people out there like that? Sure, of course. They’re the people obsessed or over-involved with the game. But there are sport fans who do just as dumb things (know disgusting amounts of rules and statistics, dress up in funny outfits, go to big gatherings miles away for annual events).

yes, everybody is pretty wacky in this short film.
What I liked is that those two guys, more mature than high school IMHO, are still stuck in this geek period of their life.

It's funny, but it's also a reminder. Everything needs to be in moderation.
Part of what I like about GMing is that I'm offering a healthier alternative to 5 other people than WoW or CS. DnD sessions are set at 4 hours maximum. People can say what they want about DnD and roleplaying in general: a lot of video games out there are by far much worse for you. But yes, there are people who take DnD too far. If you ever go to a convention (of any kind), find the LARPers: You'll feel really good about yourself afterwards.
After that I needed to hang with some of the girls in my res, even watch a chick-flick or something; that movie seriously messed up the equilibrium in my brain...
As a rule of thumb, if I find that a player is incapable of maintaining a conversation outside of the game that isn't DnD related, I force them to take a break. This is always hard, as the same player is also a passionate role player, and as a GM I always try and encourage getting into character. Just, there's a difference between that, and letting the character get into you.
I wouldn't be surprised if sheerily by some paranormal form of Diffusion, we were all more pathetic after watching that.

Sorry, refering to my sessions specifically. We are planning eventually on having an all nighter (for our last session of the year), but otherwise myself and 4/5 players are all university students. However, we still manage to get quite a bit accomplished every session. For purposes of leveling, shopping, and other long process stuff, we at times go up to 5.They are? That's news to me. Smile We've had single battles close to 2 hours.
Pacing is key for those types of sessions. It's very easy to find half of your time consumed by a single, verbal encounter. The catch is not making things Ebberon paced either.
Actually, I'm writing this as I'm watching the video. I don't find it quite that natural, it seems pretty much acted so far.
Of course I don't like to see a player say, in-character, "I'm chaotic neutral", but perhaps that is just my Ravenloft background.
the end of that battle is pretty ridiculous, with the gamemaster apparently in extasy and fondling his own chest. I've never seen anyone play like that, and that's one of the things that make me find this pretty unreal... but perhaps I'm just used to normality, anyway.
The praying before the meal scene is hilarious too.

This discussion reminds me of how I came to build my rpg group for kids at the local church.
Eight years ago: "How can he? - Aren't roleplayers weird and worship Satan?"
Now: "We're so glad Rafi takes our children away from the computer at least for some hours..."
Gaming is getting more and more normal among younger people, and so, such old geek stereotypes loose their validity... If they ever had any.
