Paridon Gazetteer

Post by Undead Cabbage »

Greetings Fellow members of the Fraternity,

After Desdichado’s thread on City maps was morphed, William, Llana, and myself have emailed each other, and we have decided that it's about bloomin’ time we get together and make a Paridon Gazetteer.

The plan is to use Mr. Blackmoor’s notes as a skeleton to this Gaz, as he has done a good job of making notes of all the canon material, as well as add some of his own ideas as dread possibilities. What we need now before we flesh anything out is material from you guys. Anything you have on Paridon already( i.e. ideas, pictures, texts, etc.) please send to NDBurke@gmail.com. RTF files are preferred, but .doc files are ok. Mr. Blackmoor's notes can be found at
http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/foru ... php?t=3034

Llana had a good suggestion that for new material we should break up different sections for different people. Llana has already expressed her keen interest in writing the section on the Divinity of Man Kind. Mr. Blackmoor and myself have already spawned some ideas for locations in Paridon, including an area known as ‘Blackchapel’ (an obvious reference to the site of the Jack the Ripper crimes). This doesn’t mean, however, that we don’t want input on these topics. As well, this also leaves a lot of topics untouched. Some ideas for sections are:

An industrial age: higher technologies in Paridon
Serial Killers
Urban Dangers
Doppleganger clans
Werejackals
These are but a few

My role in this Gaz will be a ‘swing author’. I will first be using Williams notes as a backbone, then plug in whatever stuff you guys give me, then from there fill in any holes. I’d like to use this forum as a place of discussion on Paridon, because as it stands it's one of the more controversial domains. It has not been decided whether Paridon in this gaz will be made part of the ‘Shining Bay’. I personally have an idea for how to satisfy both sides on this debate, however I first want to see outside input.

Either way, I look forward to working with all of you.

Sincerely
The Undead Cabbage

Well, it seems the question of "Where to next?" has resolved itself in spectacular fashion. Gotta love those self-organizing systems. :lucas:

I'll have to see if I can think of anything to chip in. I've always like the idea of Paridon, but I've never had a chance to develop anything for it.

Where's the love Cabbage, where's the love? :(

*sigh

Well, let me see what I've got so far in terms of notes that might be of use, and other ideas that merit development. Based on where my revisions go, I might give the technologies department a shot.

we'll see

Paridon will live again!

Remember, I don't want to make anything exclusive to anybody. That's not the point behind the gaz.

Just, for organization purposes, it would be smoother if we could get people specializing in different areas. This doesn't mean, however, that anyone's say is the be all end all. Ideally, I'd love to include as much of everyone's input as possible.

Werejackals in Paridon?
Information seems to come my way whether by chance or by fate, but all this means, is that I have yet to find out what will kill me and why. - The Stygian Inquirer

I've got a few dread possabilities I can throw into the pot.

Be sure to check the 2e campaign setting, Sodo has a couple of werejackal enemies.

One idea I had with the werejackals was to put it with conjunction with William's idea of the steam engine train. The werejackals actually remain outside of the city, and raid the train route to nosos.

However, if there is an overall distaste for the Jackals, we could just not mention them entirely.

When you do this are you going for the cannon verson of just Paridon or the Shining bay all three togther idea?

This is a topic that I'm curious to see more opinions on before we make a decision. As so far, however, Williams notes involve Timor being underneath Paridon.

One thing I see no reason for not including is Williams idea of a steam engine train from Paridon to Nosos. Be it a phsyical path, or a mistway.

Ooh, look what happens when I go away a few hours!

@Nathan: sowwy....

Well, okay, not really.

@Samael: what were you interested in writing about? We still want to see more on the 7th Order. I'm willing to share the love! :D

@ Jasper: we will have a canon core at the very least. But from what I read here, a lot of people have already been operating with some version of the Shining Bay or a technologically advanced society. We can't ignore these ideas when so many of us are playing with them, officially or not.

And really, since nothing has been written since what, 756 BC, who's to say that Nosos hasn't joined since- or before, but unnoted?

Just a quick note to say that I'm interested in contributing towards this Gazetter, and on this occasion I didn't even have to have the wife nag me first...

I'll put in my vote for the Shinning bay verson (at least as far as that Nosos is within a quater days travel). The only thing I see as a slight snag is IIRC Paridon had a food shortage problem due to having no land to grow it on. They had to resort to rooftop gardens to feed idavidual families and what shipments they could get sent in to feed the masses.

With Nosos so close that would solve the problem as they can grow on Nosos land. I however don't like fixing problems in Ravenloft .

To fix the fix  we could have it that any food brought out of Nosos is so tainted with toxins that any non Nososians get violently ill from eating it. The Nososians themselves are so use to the toxins in thier systems the food does not effect them.

Coincedently, I believe this was what William was getting to in some of his notes.

Not to mention, even though there's food coming into the city, who says it even touches to lower classes?

I doubt that it would, as in all crisis situations that have had time to reach an equilibrium, it would be the monied that would be best off. A comparison would be with the situation in Land of the Dead (I wasn't a fan, but stay with me... :P ). ANY food that did get into Paridon would end up in the hands of the wealthy or on the black market, and sadly I don't see a Robin Hood turning up in Paridon any time soon... Though it might make a decent plot hook or dread possibility... :D

If there's any room left I'd like to include an 'Invisible Man' NPC who was an Alchemical philosopher who found out perhaps too much about Sodo and his clan. This, of course, is merely speculation. Other NPCs would be more important to have.
