I also really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't as good as the first one, but then, what is?

I think most of the things I'd say in defense of Pirates II have already been said, but I do want to jump in and defend the crew of the Dutchman. I LOVED the character designs. For one thing, the pure imagination and guts that went into designing something that weird and fantastical impresses the heck out of me. The zombie pirates looked great, but we've all seen CG zombies before; oh the other hand, I can honestly say that I've never seen anything remotely like the crew of the Dutchman before, and it's so rare to find something that unusual that it deserves credit. More than that, though, I thought that the weird sea creatuer design really fit the overall themes of the ship. The crazy barnacle-encrusted look of their bodies was a creepy reminder of how closely linked to the ship they were, since they were actually coming to look like the ship. As for the sea creature heads, again, it worked thematically. Davy Jones is the sea; why shouldn't his servants look like sea creatures?

Mostly, though, it just comes back to the fact that they were genuinely unique. Huzzah.

I liked the movie very much. Far more than the first one to be sincere. We have seen zombie crews and pirates hunting for gold many times, however we haven't seen half-fish monster-pirate slaves and Krakens etc.

Ravenloft Usage? None IMO. Yes, you can change a lot to make it more Ravenlofty but then you can even change snow-white and Red Riding Hood to make them Ravenlofty.

Jack Sparrow is not an evil man actually, more a self-preserving Chaotic Neutral one. He betrayed Will and many more people, but that was self-preservation.

The movie was not unecessarily complicated IMO. It was funnily complicated.

PS. Yes VAN I saw the movie. Friends asked me to, and I said yes. Sorry.

I got to see Dead Mans Chest on day of release and loved it, though I still think Jack Sparrow needs to stop ripping off my image (the git!). I also recognised some people I know in it (I know 17 re0enactors that are parts of Jack's crew and Davey's crew) and they are also appering in End of the World (Pirates of the Caribbean 3). OH!! I also did some storyboard for Pirates 3, but that's all I'm saying  HEY!!! I am a darklord dammit and I'm allowed to tease :P

I saw the movie yesterday and I enjoyed it more than the first one. I liked the drama, how the characters changed their minds on the right moment and most of all the "beasty"! However, I have to admit that they have really overreacted in some scenes.
- The first 2 Feats a wizard should take are "point blank shot" and "Precise shot"!
- W H A T ! ? !
- Or they should NEVER memorize rays!
