Potter finale NOW: book discussion! xxxxx SPOILERS!!!!
Less than three weeks to go, and this was inspired by Catman Jim's comments in the General Forum.
I've just finished reading the last six books, and am eagerly awaiting the last one. This isn't for spoilers when people do get the book, but about ideas anyone's come up with concerning revelations, etc.
Here's a couple: Snape was in love with Lily Evans/Potter. Dumbledore's been saying forever that he knows Snape regretted telling Voldemort about the prophecy and its eventual outcome in the Potters' death, let alone that he had good reason to trust him. Yeah, we all know that he hated James Potter, but nobody's ever said a word about Lily in all this.
Secondly, Snape told Dumbledore about the Unbreakable Vow, and was told that if push came to shove, knock 'im off before Malfoy did. Come on, why else would Dumbledore be begging? And earlier in the book, Harry overhears Snape saying that he wasn't able to handle it anymore, and being reprimanded.
Early on, I'd read somewhere that every book would be set in Hogwarts for every school year. But I have yet to figure out a plausible reason as to why Harry would return to school for his final year with everything that's going on, let alone his own plans at the end of the sixth book. Any ideas, anyone?

*** please do not put any spoilers in this thread, or rumors found on the net about who dies in the book ***
I'm currently rereading the last one too, to remind me of the whole context before July 21st.
I think Harry will go back to school as he feels he has to finish it in order to get powerful enough to get to the end of his clash with Voldemort.
I think Voldemort is Harry's father (and Luke's too)
The Lily-Snape thing is a good guess for the plot, IMHO.

As a diehard Hairy Pothead hater I must say, who cares?!
heh
It's jus a ripoff of The Worst Witch and Unseen University. And yes, I have read some of the books and watched the first 3 movies... what a waste of time they were (I was hoping (like the books) that they would improve).

Can't speak for The Worst Witch; I've never heard of it. But I love Terry Pratchett, and I don't see how you could compare the Unseen University with Hogwarts. Is Dumbledore Ridcully's twin, and Harry, Rincewind's?
I think you're mixing up 'ripoff' with 'similarity'; yeah, all three involve magical schools. Are you going to say that Pratchett rips off Piers Anthony because he uses a fantasy world for his satire?
@ Rotipher: a Horcrux in the school might be possible. Maybe in that hidden passage that had broken down that the twins had mentioned that's marked on the map?
And who the heck is the big blond Deatheater? I'm wondering if it might be Regulus Black, even if he was rumoured to be dead. After all, look at Peter Pettigrew.

Or back in the Chamber of Secrets, which would explain why Dumbledore hadn't found it and why Harry, himself, would have to come retrieve it. Besides, it'd be just like JKR to leave it someplace the kids had already been, but had totally overlooked the first time.Llana wrote:Rotipher: a Horcrux in the school might be possible. Indeed, we'll find it to be an object we've known about. Like a good dungeonsmaster, she likes to tie what's happening now with the past story.Rotipher of the FoS wrote: Besides, it'd be just like JKR to leave it someplace the kids had already been, but had totally overlooked the first time.
Also, I guess we'll have Dumbledore back in a way or another - message from the past left for Harry, ghost adviser, spirit à la ObiWan, etc.

And while we are in the wild speculations... either Hermione / Ron will die jumping in front of the other to avoid the other being killed. They are in love for so long, it has to end in a dramatic way

I have a pet theory right now regarding the prophecy from Order of the Phoenix. I haven't finished rereading the Half-Blood Prince, so I may yet change my mind, but I did see the OotP movie yesterday.
SEMI-SPOILER BELOW
The Prophecy states "Neither shall live while the other survives". I believe that the "other" may actually be Neville Longbottom, not Harry or Voldemort. It may just be a clever wording thing, or else I'm looking for more than is really there.
Oh, and it was amazing to me regarding the new movie just how much was NOT in it from the book! Good movie nonetheless, but you miss a lot by not reading the books!

I only wish I had retired sooner!
We can make a sort of poll!
I don't want to open a new topic so we can just vote here.
So, who do you think is going to die?
1)Harry Potter
2)Hermione
3)Ron
4)Hermione + Ron
5)Nobody
6)Else
