Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic, a Miniseries

Post by Wiccy of the Fraternity »

Next year, following the success of Hogfather last X-Mas comes The Colour of Magic as another Sky produced miniseries. We all know the plot, but the cast list appears to be interesting so far.

Sean Astin: Twoflower (rumored)
David Jason: Rincewind
Tim Curry: Trymon
David Bradley: Cohen the Barbarian
Laura Haddock: Bethan
Christopher Lee: The Voice of Death (voice)
James Cosmo: Galder Weatherwax
Richard da Costa: Luggage
Nicholas Tennant: Head Librarian
James Greene: Narrowbolt
Michael Mears: Jiglad Wert-Hoodwinkers
Roger Ashton-Griffiths: Lumuel Panter-Midnight
Will Keen: Ganmack Treehallet-Venerable
Peter Copley: Spold

I am very happy to see they got the casting on DEATH's voice right this time, it should've been Lee last time too.

Not to sure about David Jason playing Rincewind though, he already played Alberto Mallick in Hogfather, lol.

Still I thought I would keep everyone updated on what was happening with this one ;)

This sounds like it might be good fun, but I'm way out of the loop on British TV. I only just realized that Sir Ian Richardson was dead. As a fan of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, this struck me a blow (though likely not as bad as the Soviet Union intelligence felt)...

Richard da Costa: Luggage

Say what? The Luggage has lines?

I know, that strikes me as weird as well, unless it's a person for motion capture, lol. If so I want Andy Serkis as The Luggage! LOL.

I think the 'Luggage' is a machine and its just crediting the person who controls it.

Assuming it's the same guy, Richard da Costa seems to be a BBC director, not an actor. Perhaps he's doing the munching noises of the Luggage eating somebody, simply as a gag? Kind of like how Hitchcock or Stephen King have cameos in their own movies.

I'm wondering why the Librarian has lines...

For those unfamiliar with the series, the Librarian is a Mon-

OW!!!

-an Orangutan(sorry Sir). All of his lines are variation of "OOK".
"And did she ever come out?"
"Not Yet".

Well, even "OOK" needs to be said by somebody, assuming they aren't dubbing in real orangutan vocalizatons.

Actually, the Librarian didn't get transformed until the Light Fantastic.

Ya but The Light Fantastic is the first book and he gets transformed even before we meet him in nearly the very first chapter.

Also, The Librarian is a man in a suit so he's credited for that. Go on ask me how I know! :)

Really? I thought Colo(u)r of Magic came before Light Fantastic, both in internal chronology and in publication order. :?

I thought he was zapped in Colour of Magic, but my memory isn't what it was and I've not read the first 3 books for a good while now.

Also, Colour of Magic is the first book, The Light Fantastic continues the adventures of Rincewind and Twoflower (who disappears at the end of this book to later appear in Interesting Times as the leader of a revolution founded by his book "What I Did on my Holidays").

Ya, sorry, my fault. The colour of magic is the first. I always get confused on that score. And I got to be an extra on the film which is how I know about the crediting of the actors. Of course I also assumed a lot which people thought I was right on which is where I got it into my head that I may indeed be right, when of course I was wrong. The Librarian is played first by a man - Nicholas Tennant - and then when he gets 'zapped' the Librarian is played by Richard de Costa in a suit.

Richard de Costa also does the Luggage - which is where yet again I have to say that I was wrong in thinking that it was going to be a machine. Richard de Costa is credited for the Luggage but not - as of yet - for the Librarian. In the book we don't actually see the Librarian before he gets changed but that must have been changed for the film since I've seen a pic of the actor as the Librarian.

There I think I fixed all the wrong I did. If I have continued in my mistakes let me know.
(yes, BITE HIM!!)
And its bite *her* thank you.
