You can make a Spellcraft check. DC 15. His way of casting it is different than yours. It seems reasonable to say Norzak spotted it, as he made no attempt to hide what he was doing [not that he had any reason to hide anything].

Denys is probably referring to the annual summer masque ball thrown by the ruling elite. It's a big deal, from what you guys have heard. A good place to make contacts, identify marks [for the criminally inclined- but be careful!], and hob-nob with the city aristocracy.
