I wonder if such gold rings would be in the possession of Witches of Hala... or perhaps passed along by Bluebeard's wives?

Hi everybody,
What a great story. It just goes to show, truth is stranger than fiction.
For use in Ravenloft it just seems too ludicrous to be believable. And what would the witches of Hala want with these? I should think they were rather in favor of men.
I suspect a power like this would be used between men, not women trying to castrate men. Especially in a culture where manliness, sexual virility and physical impression is important in achieving and maintaining social standing. Then it would make sense for men to try to steal eachothers symbol of succes and standing.
I am thinking of a somewhat primitive realm in ravenloft, where rational thought and modern medicine are unknown. (so not Darkon, Lamordia or Dementlieu). Sourange would be a likely spot, especially with Anton Misroi becoming a darklord for his intense sexual jealousy. But I can also see this happening in more pastoral realms, where men fiercely guard their flocks, women, possesions and good name.

Actually, impotence is one of the few effects of "curses" which can manifest in real life. Make a superstitious man insecure enough about his alleged "curse", and it really does impair the basic physiology of arousal ... not because it's magic, but because he is nervous and insecure.
While an X-rated Ravenloft probably isn't most people's cup of tea, you could still adapt this idea to a Ravenloft game in a metaphorical sense. Perhaps there could be an evil cult or a psychic leech on the loose, draining away victims' capacity for desire of all kinds, thus denying them pleasure in love, food, celebration, etc. Maybe Stezen d'Polarno unwittingly tried to drain the life out of a vampire, and instead of being consumed by his portrait, it mutated from a blood-drainer to a passion-drainer?
