I took the liberty of rolling iniatiave for Cirdan and the two baddies:

Cirdan 7

Hatchet-man 6

Poignard-man 5

No surprise, as Cirdan warned them by shouting [which is well in keeping with his code, and allowed for the Knight's challange to kick in].

If you notice, divine magic spells from a bunch of different religions, some of which don't get along. What kind of deity would let me get away with something like that

Maybe some sort of universal oversoul, but not your typical D&D style god.

Oh yeah, there should definitely be a lot of neat little personality clashes, especially considering how often people end up getting tortured in this game.

Speaking of which, Ewan, are we using Powers Checks in this game?

Oh yes, we certainly are....

I roll for the players, as needed. Powers Checks are definitely a 'behind the DM's screen' sort of thing in games I run. You'll know if and when you fail one.
