Favourite Modules and 4e Considerations

Post by Nikolas of the Mists »

As some of you may know I am crunching my way through aspects of Ravenloft and 4E, and I intend on running several different modules at the annual local gaming convention.

Considering two main factors:

i) The quality and enjoyment level of the module, and
ii) The ease of conversion of monsters and aspects to 4th Ed

What mods do people think would be the best to do over?

Time slots are usually 4 hours-ish, but I could run a double or end of slot to go over time if necessary. I would also like to stick to heroic tier where I can.

I will be running "The Created" for newer characters and players for sure, but am looking for input onto a couple of others to consider. Just because there are modules that I loved/hated I am sure others may feel differently.

I'm not a big 4E fan, but Thoughts of Darkness is one that really needs to be redone, Nikolas.

Given the time slot something combat-lite. No more than 4 large fights.

Hrm... I know Feast of Goblyns was a convention piece originally...

I do love thoughts of darkness, but every time I have run it, regardless of edition, its clocked in at like 5-6 hours.

The repetitive "OMG its the half-vistani slave driver get him -- Oh look he's got away but left goons to clean up" makes it take a long time, on top of the ever ready threat of teleported in illithids reacting to magic. If I cut those down it'd probably be close to four.

I'd also be up for any that are more problem solving or use your brain adventures, eg Howls in the Night/Hour of the Knife motif, but I haven't DMd either of them before :?

I've always been a huge fan of NIGHT of the WALKING DEAD. Couple of zombies, a mad man and a zombie lord should be a relatively easy transistion for you. Plus some giant frogs if you're REALLY in the mood.
