Custom Artifacts

Post by KingCorn »

What are some custom artifacts you've made or had ideas for in the Dread Realms?

I'm tossing around a couple of Lamodian Artifacts: Three Automatons that are controlled via remote (and who as they are gathered together are more and more likely to gain sentience and become dream golems) and basically a brain helmet (giving psychic powers and protections, but alot of madness checks).

I assume you meant dread golems, but now I want to know what a dream golem would be like. It sounds like something a corrupt doctor might make in a sanitarium.

I have plenty of DM Oddities that for some reason or another never made it into play. One is "Le Masque des Tragedies Oubliees". Or, "The Mask of Forgotten Tragedies". I don't speak a lick of French so if the translation is off I blame the software. Heh. I just thought it sounded cooler. Anyway, the gist of it is:

Le Masque des Tragedies Oubliees is a clay-like substance that is mixed (moulded) with the victim's blood and then placed over their face to create, well, a mask. When worn the wearer's face then visibly re-enacts the tragic deaths of all those within their ancestry. Sadistic occult wannabes and filthy rich elite, always wearing provided and featureless porcelain masks to protect their identities, then bid on the sculpt of a favorite "Death Mask". The Sculptor helps by psychically reliving the deaths and whispering each victim's name to those gathered. Process is repeated until there are no more buyers. More often than not the "helper", or, "assistant" goes mad from the experience...

The Sculptor is in truth one of many possessed bodies, worn by the evil intelligence that is actually trapped in a tome. A "deal gone bad" between a former uninspired artist with a very sick mind and a very shady bookhound in a very shady bookhouse...but that's a different set of notes altogether.
"A very piteous thing it was to see such a quantity of dead bodies, and such an outpouring of blood - that is, if they had not been enemies of the Christian faith."
