I know thare are a couple vampire darklords, but I was struck by this idea.
The dark lord is a warrior with some levels in wizard, they are a hard opponent as he has found ways to overcome vampire weaknesses (like to prevent being killed while asleep, he has a metal plate attached to a spike through his heart)
As the darklord he has found he can no longer make spawn or turn others and dominating minds is much harder, he is the only vampire in the domain. Ironically the people of the domain are paranoid of vampires and have much lore of them (not all of it true, or apply to the darklord) but the domain has several blood drinkers, so many false vampire attacks. There’s even a illness that causes paleness, light sensitivity and cravings for blood, and premature funerals happen.
