The errata thread
Dear members of the Fraternity,
Following one of our esteemed member's idea, this thread is about errata. Thanks Jester for the suggestion.
While reading the official Ravenloft books, you may have spotted mistakes or missing info.
Please post your errata here, in this thread. Once in a while, I’ll collect the info and put it online.
Do not post about typos that are unimportant and do not change the text!
Do not post about a difference of opinion with the author on a subject!
In order to make it useful and comprehensive, please provide the justifications for your corrections!
Please specify clearly on which book you noticed a mistake (and the page number, of course).
If possible, before posting an errata about the Ravenloft Setting Book (2001), check the official errata PDF about this document (however currently unavailable on the web, I know - PM me).
Good hunting,
Joël

In order to make it useful, please provide the justifications for your affirmations, ex:
Please do not give me the burden of trying to guess what you meant, or an errata won't be compiled if it's too much work! I'm not paid for that!

How did you calculate it ?tec-goblin wrote:6)Page 151. Gwydion's saves don't seem correct. The correct ones would be Fort +35, Ref +29, Will +35.

Feral Raised feat ambiguities
According to the description of the Feral Raised feat from CoD p. 43, the individual with it has for his type: animal. Hence we have the racial bonus to Animal Empathy and Handle Animals. But what are the other consequences of this change of type? Low-light vision as per the animal type description, probably necessary for running with wolves or any animal of the night? Immunity to charm person, resistance to Tasha's Hideous Laughter, susceptibility to charm animal and hide from animals spells, since we are dealing with racial bonuses right? Perhaps even full access to certain skills (hide, spot, jump, etc.) that would otherwise be cross-classed, although only those that are possessed by the animal type that raised the individual? Perhaps even, although I think not if I am reading the rules correctly, initially good fortitude and reflex saves that animals typically receive.

I would probably handle it like a template. From the SRD (Improving monsters):
"Unless a template indicates otherwise, the new creature has the traits of the new type but the features of the original type"
And also:
"Note that if a creature acquires a character class, it improves according to its class, not its type."
So by that logic, no saves, skills, attacks or hit dice.
But the traits of animal are:
1) Intelligence score of 1 or 2 (no creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher can be an animal).
2) Low-light vision.
3) Alignment: Always neutral.
4) Treasure: None.
5) Proficient with its natural weapons only. A noncombative herbivore uses its natural weapons as a secondary attack. Such attacks are made with a –5 penalty on the creature’s attack rolls, and the animal receives only 1/2 its Strength modifier as a damage adjustment.
6) Proficient with no armor unless trained for war.
7) Animals eat, sleep, and breathe.
OK, so 4 is irrelevant, unless you want to say no starting wealth, but that's harsh.
5 & 6 become irrelevant as soon as he takes a class.
7 is a given.
2 seems reasonable.
1 & 3 may be problematic. There's no good way to enforce 1 and have a playable character, so ignore that. 3... well, it's up to the DM, I guess. there's no reason he couldn't have had an alignment shift after leaving the woods.
The SRD also says: "If a template changes the base creature’s type, the creature also acquires the augmented subtype unless the template description indicates otherwise. The augmented subtype is always paired with the creature’s original type"
I believe that means he becomes "Augmented Human - Animal", and I think that means he would be affected by ALL the spells that target animals and/or humans. But I'm not sure. I don't have CoD handy, so I don't know if it says not to gain the augmented type. (But it's CoD, so I doubt that rules nuance was noticed.)

I share your ire at CoD, but let's give it a break: the augmented subtype was a 3.5 idea (and a great one) and CoD was a 3.0 book.

Really? I thought it was one of the first to be 3.5. If so, I take back my jab. If it is 3.0, then I'm not really sure how to handle it. It looks like changing creature types is something that was substantiallly cleaned up in 3.5.

The first book to be 3.5 was either Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey or Gazetteer IV, I think.gonzoron wrote:Really? I thought it was one of the first to be 3.5.

I stand corrected, in fact looking at the release dates, it looks like CoD was waaaay before the first of the 3.5 books (at least a year). (Now that Stygian Inquirer reminds me, I think it was Gaz IV...).
In any case, I'd use the 3.5 rules in this case. The 3.0 SRD doesn't seem to cover type-changing, except on a case-by-case basis.

Another round of changes to the errata page is soon going to be posted!
Meanwhile, got the following by email:
In the intro text of that class, they speak about "warriors", which would make make use a d10 for their hit points. Also, the feat progression is similar to that of a warrior.
(However, since a caracter using this class isn't fighting hand to hand like other warriors, perhaps I'd suggest using a d8 or a d6)

Heroes of Light? *sigh*The HD for the Black Powder Avenger is not present in the book. I have been unable to find it in the Salon's errata or elsewhere. I'm under the impression that the mistake affects game mechanics enough to justify notifying you. The main reason I'm sending this is because I've got a player who wants to use this class and I'm unsure of which HD to slot in there.

I would still go with d10 because of the dangers of gunpowder (i.e. it exploding while you are carrying it). And the class has fighter BAB, fighter saves, why not fighter HD? It just seems like a fighter with some abilities instead of bonus feats to me.Joël of the Fraternity wrote:In the intro text of that class, they speak about "warriors", which would make make use a d10 for their hit points. MotRD: Page 25 - 1897
Greece didn't win the war of Thessaly - it attacked Turkey in what proved a fiasco and was defeated - Greece barely kept Thessaly after this (Thessaly was in Greek hands for some years)
Believe me, I'm Greek, I know we lost (well, many Greeks don't even know that a war happened at 1897, but anyway)
