Centuries ago, the Durst Family was a wealthy Barovian family of landholders that lived in the Village of Barovia their home known today as Death House, though they also owned the Old Bonegrinder mill. Gustav Durst and Elizabeth Durst were the leaders of a cult devoted Strahd, but they and their cult were wiped out after they provoked the vampire lord's wrath. Gustav and Elizabeth Durst had two innocent children that died of starvation at some point before or after their parents' deaths, and they linger on as ghosts. Gustav had a third stillborn illegtimate child, Walter Durst, whom died in childbirth. Gustav and Elizabeth linger on as ghasts.[1][2]
