What is a Fiend?

A fiend is evil, given substance, form and intelligence. This usually happens either when an otherworldly force of evil is summoned from the lower planes by a mortal, or when folkloric evil is shaped into reality by the thoughts and beliefs of generations. Examples of the former are creatures like the baatezu and tanar'ri, creatures formed from the souls of the damned over millennia and released by summoning rituals or transposition.
