The Centurion is the tenth persona of the Fiend known as the Red Haunt. She is described in the article "Secrets of Shadow".[1]
Appearance
The Centurion appears as an inhumanly beautiful woman with dragon's wings, dressed from head to toe in form-fitting, crimson armor.[2]
History
The Centurion fully came into focus in 740 BC. The Fiend had been wandering the loose Islands of Terror and small Clusters that would unite to become the Wartorn Cluster, having departed the Core out of frustration with the pointlessness of Meredoth. She was in primal Masogan when the Great Upheaval struck, and witnessed Mt. Brightwell erupt with Un-Fire - then saw other mountains in the distance erupt with the same. She heard the great grinding of some unimaginable machinery, deep underground, and it all spoke to her. Thereafter, the Centurion would say that she had a vision there; a vision of the death of the Dark Powers, the destruction of the Demiplane of Dread, and the latter's re-creation in her own image. The vision proved compelling enough that it set her feet on a path of war and the creation of the Centurions of the Night.
Personality
The Centurion is a paradoxical creature. She is ruthless, yet holds firm to the oaths she swore as part of her prestige class. She leads in combat with her strongest attacks first, yet tailors these to her targets. She hyper-focuses on one target at a time, relying on her speed and defenses to keep her safe, yet favours area-spells to sow shock and awe. Rather than toy with prey, what the Centurion wants to do is overwhelm opposition with superior power. That said, she does not hesitate to switch places with another Persona of the Red Haunt if that persona is better able to match a challenge, or even cedes tasks to an ally if that should be more likely to have the result she wants. Her vision is her guiding light, the thing that she always keeps in her mind's eye, what her whole existence and everything she does and says revolves around. The subtlety she lacks as a warrior, she more than makes up for when directing troops; as a general she is brilliant and patient, with backup-plans for backup-plans, and her eye always on the greater benefit.
