Martyn Pelkar, also known as Brother Martyn the Mad, was an outlander who was brought to Barovia via the Outlander's Gate in 475 BC. He founded the Cult of the Morninglord, based on his outlander belief in Lathander and an encounter with Jander Sunstar. He took in, and trained, Sasha Petrovich.

Chronology

  • 475 BC - Jander Sunstar is taken to the Land of Mists.[1] That same year, he goes on a hunt for blood with Strahd and several vampire slaves. They find Pelkar's outlander family camping. The vampires feed upon Pelkar's relatives, but Pelkar is spared at Jander's insistence. He mistakes his gold elf "savior" for Lathander, taking this as divine intervention. Martyn is but a mere ten years old at the time.[2]
  • 475 BC - Martyn Pelkar emerges from the Svalich Woods into the Village of Barovia, murmuring about being saved by the Morninglord (see above). His talk lays the foundation for the Cult's emergence later on.[3]
  • 485 BC - Martyn Pelkar has preached the word of the Morninglord for a decade[4], fixing up the old church and restoring its status as a holy place.[5]
  • 499 BC - Martyn dies from sickness[8], a "dark growth" haven slowly consumed his innards.[9] Sasha mourns, having been raised and instructed by Sasha for nearly a decade and a half.[8]
