The Black Baori was a stepwell in Sri Raji which was built along the Haathi ka Raasta shortly before it reaches Bahru. On the surface, it is a site of astounding tranquility.[1]
However, the Black Baori received its name because of a spirit which haunts its waters, at least according to local legend. Anyone who drinks from the stepwell without making an offering to the spirit—a prayer will do—will find that the waters turn dark and foul-tasting. Nonetheless, there is something not merely tranquil but hypnotizing about these black waters, and visitors may feel compelled to drown themselves in the baori.[1]
