Borgo the Sword-Swallower[1] (real name: Ferin Irongrod) was a dwarf sword-swallower who performed at Carnival l'Morai. His murder sparked an investigation by Marie the Blind Juggler, Morcastle, and Hermos, unveiling a conspiracy involving the Puppetmaster and all of the citizens of the City of l'Morai.

Biography

Borgo was not always a sword-swallower. In fact, Borgo was not originally from Carnival l'Morai or even named Borgo. Some four hundred years ago, Borgo was a stonemason named Ferin Irongrod contracted by André Cygne, one of the two founding brothers of the carnival, to inscribe the cornerstone of Carnival l'Morai and possibly construct the carnival arena. Juron Cygne ultimately entombed his brother alive there in the cornerstone. At some point soon after, Ferin was transformed by the living death into one of the carnival folk, forgetting his previous identity.

Borgo was still alive hundred years later, a friend to Marie the Blind Juggler, Hermos, and many of the other inhabitants of Carnival l'Morai. He retained his skill as a stonemason and crafted a quartz statue of a tree so highly detailed she could feel all the details, unable to visually experience it.

Later, Borgo was killed by the Puppetmaster and pinned the murder on Dominick the Butcher. However, the investigation of Borgo's death by Marie, Morcastle, and Hermos eventually led not only the truth but a rebellion of the carnival folk and their escape from l'Morai all together.
