Anguillians are a race of aquatic aberrations generalling dwelling in the ocean depths of cold water. They resemble humanoid-eel hybrids, with two arms ending in pincers (though they're still capable of using weapons) and two small legs and tail, and a lamprey like mouth.[1]

Anguillians are generally hunters, with whale and giant squid as favored prey, though anguillians will also turn to scavenging or even cannibalism if the need exists. On nights with no moon, they may rise up from the depths and attack ships or coastal communities. Their aversion to light otherwise causes them to avoid the surface. Beyond eating flesh, they also drink blood. They have the unusual ability to speak with eels and dire eels, and anguillians may be encountered with dire eels.[1]

Non-Canon Information

Anguillians can be encountered on the surface of the Nocturnal Sea[2]. Because no moon or other celestial bodies break the night sky of the Nocturnal Sea[3], anguillians operate on the Sea any night they want. Primarily, Anguillians can be encountered in the Drowning Deep[4], where they usually serve Virundus.[5] The elite Anguillian clerics of the God Below, known as hieroi ("holy ones"), belonging to the highest caste of Xalote society make their residences within or close to the Great Temple of the God Below.[6] Basilikos Hierarch, an influential cleric, is an important authority figure in Shay-lot.[7]

If Virundus gives the Sea Claimed Template to a creature, clerics, druids, and paladins receive the taint of the anguillian.[8]

Descriptive Text

"We had reports from fisherman about an abandoned merchant boat drifting about a mile south-west of the Mordentshire Bay. Me and a few other fellow Lamplighters boarded the small Lamordian ship later this very day. All 6 crew members were dead, often with signs of violence in the area where their body stood. Their dead face expressed fear. They appear to be drained of all blood, and oddly they all bear the same round leech-like mark. This mark puzzled us, since it’s very large: about 6” to 8”. Usual body precautions with blood suckers have been used prior to putting the sailor men to their last rest in the cemetery."
