These innocuous-looking but highly carnivorous plants are known to be encountered in the following domains: Barovia[1], Forlorn[2], Invidia[3], Mordent[4], Sithicus[5], the Shadow Rift[6], Souragne[7],
Tepest[8], and Valachan[9]. They often can be encountered serving as guardians.
As one might expect, crawling ivy strikes nearby prey from ambush, first using an entangle effect to keep the prey from escaping and then strangling them with mighty vines. However, the grip of a crawling ivy also has much more dangerous consequences. Given enough time, crawling ivy can strangle its grappled victims. The leaves of a crawling ivy act as suction mechanisms to drain the blood of its prey, inflicting additional damage.[10]
Crawling ivy is thought to have been artificially created through the use of arcane experimentation. Fitting, as they can make adept guardians if regularly fed.[10]

Crawling ivy gained a measure of noteriety after Julia Fyrehaaven applied the plant to the task of killing her husband, a professor at the University of Il Aluk. Professor Abelhous Nicholsi was also attacked, but he not only survived his encounter with the plant but his subsequent investigation of the matter exposed the crime. Spurred by the episode, Doctor Nicholsi would subsequent undertake a study of dread plants.
Among many other dread plants, crawling ivy can be found in abundance in Murillia, sometimes with high sentience but evil alignment.[11]
