The Cult of Light is a religious organization and secret society that believes in the inherent wrongness of immortality. Although they believe in defending the hurt and the righteous^[1], the Cult's primary task is to hunt the immortal they know as The Evil One (whom they seek to to destroy^[2] or to imprison minus the ability to destroy) along with any mortals he tempts or corrupts (whom they seek to redeem, kill^[3], or redeem through killing^[1]). To this end, the Cult keeps watchful vigil for any signs that might lead to the Evil One, including individuals likely to be manipulated by the Evil One- whom the Cult believes is a tempter dedicated to corrupting mortals with promises of everlasting life^[1].

Members of the Cult are on the dour and stern side, though they are very devoted to their mission and hold strong bonds of altruism for each other^[1].

History

Although the Cult first formalized as a religious organization at a time when the One was a tyrant, the cult's founders would initially come to hate him over a tragic misunderstanding. On some outlander world a long, long time ago, the One had sought to alleviate his loneliness by sharing his immortality with his dying friend Lytos. The One infused Lytos with a part of his immortality, but the effort was for not. Instead of truth life and vigor, Lytos became a tortured and rotting husk of his former self, begging for release from his unnatural existence. Lytos was only put to rest through complete consumption by fire^[4].

The heirs of Lytos began an eternal hunt for the One, now labeled a horrific murderer and necromancer. Although he attempted to outlive them, Lytos' kin kept up pursuit over the generations. Eventually the One tired of evading his pursuers and decided to eschew friendship for wealth and power. Thus, he became a warlord then a conquering monarch. It was during this time that the heirs of Lytos formalized the Cult of Light. After much struggle, the One's foes dismantled his empire and sealed him away in a tomb, hopefully forever^[5].

Although the One's prison held him in their long enough for memory of him to start fading, the One eventually escaped and went about wreaking bloody revenge upon his betrayers and transgressors. The Cult eventually discerned the One's returnn and took action, but not quickly enough for his recapture. He fled into a patch of mist, coming to the Demiplane of Dread for the first time. The Cult or a seg1ent thereof would eventually follow him, recruiting new members from the natives of the Land of Mists^[5].

Most recently, two of the Cult's members have attended the private estate auctioning of Lord Eowyn Theone's goods in order to gain more information about the One^[6].

The Lucine Claw

The Lucine Claw (also known as Tempus Bane is a magic dagger that is especially effective against creatures of air and light. Crafted by the founder of the Cult of Light to fight the One, the Cult nonetheless believe the Claw has a corrupting effect and to wield it invites their wrath^[6].
