Orcs are evil, brutish humanoids that live in tribes and sustain themselves through hunting, wars, and raids. They can mate with humans, siring half-orc children[1][2] Though native to may outlander worlds, they are alien to the realms of the Demiplane of Dread, not appearing even in legend. Because of this, no half-orcs are native to the Demiplane of Dread, their roles instead played by calibans[3].
History in the Demiplane of Dread
Orcs may have once been native to Mordent when it existed on the Prime Material Plane. At the time of Strahd and Azalin's visit to Mordent in 579 BC, orcs could be found in the moors of the realm. A tribe of orcs, led by Hargel Gruumsh, inhabited the cliffs around Mordentshire[4].
On rare occaission, outlander orcs may make their way to the Land of Mists. One such individual, Tosk, is a performer in Carnival[5]. Shortly before Vecna escaped the Burning Peaks, a tribe of orcs led by Karhk of the Elf-Splitters were among Iuz's invasion force attacking Citadel Cavitius[6].
In the continuity established by Curse of Strahd, the Bloodhand Tribe of Faerun were drawn into the Land of Mists when Barovia began annexing many of the areas surrounding Phlan. For a time, they menaced the town of Orașnou. Ultimately, the tribe returned back to Faerun.[7].
Orcs and Lycanthropy
Of the lycanthropic strains, orcs are most vulnerable to the phenotypes of the wereboar and wererat, having a strong resistance to other strains[8][9]. However, a number of werebadger orcs are known to exist, somewhat lesser in population than werebadger dwarves[10].
Orc lycanthropes are not marked by any special traits indicating race while in beast form, save for the possible exception of excessive drooling[11][12].
