"Shadowy creature" is the informal game given in Gazetteer V to a collection of monsters that are connected to shadow or darkness enough to receive a special boon while in the Shadow Rift. (They are listed on p. 105 of Gaz V.) Such creatures encountered within the Rift have maximum hit points and heal much quicker than when normal.[1]
Note that this informal name should not be confused with the Shadow Creature template, which may certainly be used to make a creature Shadowy.
