Comte Dreyfuss is a nobleman of Dementlieu province in the domain of Madego; he is first mentioned in the article "Little Horrors"[1]. He was born during the Shrouded Years, but was still alive and mortal in 740 BC, when Lupta danced on the barren plains of G'Henna province and the Night of Music brought freedom to the local Chi-Folken.
Free to Fall
The Comte celebrated his newfound freedom by travelling the Core provinces with abandon. He fell in love with a beautiful woman while he was in Barovia province, only for her to abandon him for Count Strahd von Zarovich, who boasted superior social skills - and a superior balance to his bank account, given that the Comte had spent most of his fortune on his travels. Dreyfuss reacted to his being jilted by making an extensive study of the undead and vampires in particular, then inviting two Ewigkinder to share in his wealth and the security of his ancestral château in return for turning him into one of the undead.
Free to Fail
Although the Comte achieved his goal of becoming one of the Ewigkinder, his two undead 'sponsors' have since left him in disgust. He is a well-known figure at evening parties and performances in Dementlieu province, but he has a tin ear, makes no distinction between high art and street performances, and continues to wear the outdated evening wear that was the height of fashion in his youth. His business ventures falter because his business strategies are as outdated as his wardrobe, and his fortunes fluctuate wildly. While he is known to be a truly excellent dancer, he has not yet found anyone suitable to become his mate.
Combat
While he may appear vaguely ridiculous, the Comte is a deadly opponent in melee. He vastly prefers the use of the sword - particularly the rapier or greatsword - or his fists over the use of supernatural attacks. He is perfectly capable of switching between elegant precision and berserk hacking and chopping; his combat style depends solely on his mood.
