Dharlaeth Asylum
Dharlaeth Asylum is a psychiatric institution located in Lamordia close to the borders of Darkon and the city of Nartok. The building used to be a cathedral before Lamordia's emergence from the Mists. Its heavy brick has lost its colour due to years of exposure to the elements and the strong winds coming from the Sleeping Beast mountains. Demonic visages and inhuman forms decorate the roof's edges.
Doctor Augustus and his staff manage the Asylum, that has a good reputation for competency and skill in healing diseases of the mind, across Lamordia and Darkon. The Asylum staff use a variety of methods in their efforts to cure patients, including mesmerism, electric shock and alchemical concoctions, although these are used only with the inmates approval.
The Asylum became the site of an unspeakable horror when a voluntary inmate, a local man by the name of Howard Ashton, suffering from a recurring nightmare about a place called Bluetspur killed a staff member, the nurse that was monitoring him, and apparently ate her brain.
The Dharlaeth Asylum and the story of Howard Ashton is featured in the Ravenloft fiction Before I Awake by Ari Marmell.
