A character from the Ravenloft product line novel Dance of the Dead, Dragoneyes[1] was the first mate and best (only true) friend of Captain Raoul Dumont. As such he was a sailor of La Demoiselle du Musarde.

Biography

Dragoneyes was a Darkonian half-elf. His distinctive golden eyes and silver hair distinguished him from human company. In the company of others, he showed little interest and usually occupied himself by whittling pieces of wood. Although apparently apathetic, Dragoneyes had a cunning and astute mind.[2] Although Dragoneyes was good friends with the captain, Dragoneyes was mostly neutral to hostile towards other people.[3] Larissa Snowmane was never fond of him[2], and Gelaar barely managed a wary and unfriendly truce with him to tolerate each other.[4]

As with Dumont, Dragoneyes was no stranger to dark deeds. At the behest of Dumont, Dragoneyes murdered Aubrey Helson and disposed of the body.[5] And Dragoneyes was accessory to Dumont's murder of Liza Penelope.[6] Dragoneyes suggested to Dumont to prep everyone for inquiry into Liza's death[7], and Dragoneyes was the first to notice the presence of the Kargat in investigating her murder.[8]

After Dumont took his ship fled Darkon into the Mists and then came out into Souragne, Dragoneyes was involved in various operations to gather customers and get things set up in Port d'Elhour. He and Tane encountered and captured Bouki, bringing the rabbit loa back for Dumont's collection of unusual slaves.[9]

When Willen came to join the crew, Dragoneyes became influenced by the positive vibrations given off by Willen as a feu follet turned human. Considering Dragoneyes disaffection for most people, Dumont recognized his endorsement of Willen as highly unusual, though Dumont did little about it as he fell under the influence of those same vibrations.[10]

Dragoneyes was accidentally killed by Alondrin with his zombie powder during Larissa's escape from the ship. He rose again as one of Alondrin's intelligent zombies. Although Dragoneyes still retained his skill and a life-like appearance, Dragoneyes loss of personality and free will came to a crushing blow to Dumont, whom lost the only true friend he had.[11]

If Dragoneyes somehow survived the fight between Larissa's forces and Lond's zombies at the end of DotD, he is now under control of Anton Misroi.
