Handsome Jack is a minor character from the novel Dance of the Dead (Novel). He was the chief pilot Captain Raoul Dumont's crew on La Demoiselle du Musarde until his murder and subsequent reanimation as a zombie in Souragne

Biography

Handsome Jack originally hailed from Arkandale.[1] Ironically named, Handsome Jack was terrible ugly. He was also a drunkard and becoming worse by day, causing Captain Dumont to fear Jack might let slip Dumont's activities as a slaver.

Dumont had long wished to impress perverse romantic affections upon Larissa. At the same time, he needed to find a way to get rid of Jack. Thus, Dumont hatched a scheme that would take care of both his goals in one fell swoop. A deformed crewman long wanting to be one of the actors, Handsome Jack was all too happy to play the role of a masked ruffian to spook Larissa and get into a fake fight with Dulmont, ostensibly to teach her a lesson about being careful.[2] In reality, Dulmont's truly planned the death of Jack and to enrapture Larissa. Although Dumont killed Jack without legal repercussions, Larissa heard Jack mention Liza before he died, implying that this death and the earlier deaths of Liza were intentional on the part of Dumont. Thus, Larissa caught onto the sinister nature of Dumont's true intentions.[3]

Handsome Jack was later buried in Rogue's Rest, where his partially rotted corpse was eventually found and reanimated as a zombie by Lond.[4] If he survived the final battle between Lond's zombies and Larissa's forces, he fell under the control of Anton Misroi.
