The Old Granary of Pakat was owned by a particularly cruel raja. One night the granary caught fire, destroying the summer's harvest. (Many reasons for the fire have been postulated over the years, including the possibility that disgruntled shudras wanted to strike back at the raja.) Many Pakati believe that the fire marked the beginning of the years of starvation in the city. Furthermore, many Pakati also believe that the Old Granary is haunted by the ghosts of those who died in the fire, and an annual festival is now held to appease the dead.[1]
The New Granary now stands on the opposite side of Pakat.[1]
