Professeur Desmode is a Loa who is worshipped in the domain Raba in the Wartorn Cluster. She is counted among the ranks of the Loa ap Mache, as she first appeared in Raba after the Great Invasion.
Professeur Desmode is rare among her tribe, however, in that her worship soon migrated out of the coastal area where the rest of her tribe's worship is concentrated, and moved into the heartland of South-Raba. The faith in this Loa appears to have finally settled down in the city of St. Virtu, as it has not spread further from the coast. Equally unusual is the fact that the Voodan and Shamans of Professeur Desmode do not clash with those of the local Loa so long as they are benign.
Rather than being concerned with territory or politics, Professeur Desmode's faith encourages cooperation between all people of good intent, the sharing of useful knowledge, and applying one's strength to drive back the forces of evil that threaten the meek and innocent. She is a popular Loa in the University of St. Virtu and among monster hunters. When she is worshipped and evoked to 'ride' her worshippers, they tend to speak High Mordentish as do all those ridden by the Loa ap Mache, but they at least make an effort to communicate and speak the local language.
Appearance
Images of Professeur Desmode show her as a slender young woman who wears a half-mask, resembling the face of an old man. Her hair is white as the full moon, and she wears black robes over a form-fitting outfit of dark blue silk. The Loa is sometimes portrayed as a great bat, wearing the same half-mask, or else as a half-woman half-bat creature combining the best traits of both.
Inspiration
Professeur Desmode appears to be a conflation of Laurie and Gennifer Weathermay-Foxgrove, with perhaps a smidgeon of Rudolph van Richten thrown into the mix - or at least his remembrance - in the form of the Loa's mask.
