The Rider's Dilemma is a metaphor created by Dr. Gregorian Illhousen to represent the duality of the Nova Vaasan psyche and culture, the tug of war between dangerous but alluring self-interest (represented by the cat) and the safe but unsatisfying honor and respectability (represented by the horse).[1]
