Origins

Schloss von Brandthofen is a formerly nameless and abandoned keep on the shore of Lamordia near Leidenheim. It was already uninhabited when Lamordia first appeared in the Core.

History

Schloss von Brandthofen was named by Amourette Schlosser when she appropriated it as a base in which to treat the injured Mu. (More than likely, this was a sneer at Victor Mordenheim, born from the Fiend's enmity towards the mad scientist following his dealings with Katia Schlosser, as the crumbling keep now carries his wife's maiden name.) Once the scholar from Gothic Earth was sufficiently recovered, it became the site for research and experimentation that resulted in the birth of the World Engine.

Dangers

Schloss von Brandthofen still contains an incomplete account of the research that culminated in the creation of the World Engine, somehow stored in the castle's very brickwork. Anyone with the necessary intellect and determination could peruse its data.

The tragic events that occurred there in 753 BC, combined with the ripples of whatever the World Engine did, have permanently corrupted the local planar fabric. All of Schloss von Brandthofen is a Rank 1 Sinkhole of Evil with a taint of Despair.

In addition, the castle is subject to localised temporal shifts, which may confront unwary visitors with rampaging constructs or any of the former residents, Victor Mordenheim, Horg or Adam himself unexpectedly. None of these individuals are likely to react well to the sudden appearance of (from their perspective) intruders.
