The inverted burial is in many ways the reverse of a standard burial ritual of the Deceased. It involves a desecration rather than consecration of the burial ground and a curse laid upon the corpse to have it rise as one of the undead rather than a blessing to stay at rest. A version of it involving the burial of a live person is used in Souragne.[1]
