Mentioned in the novel Tower of Doom, skull beetles are so-called by the patches of dark coloring along their waxy carapaces that resemble smiling human skulls.[1] The bettle's powerful venom causes any flesh it touches to quickly rot away with no cure.[2] It quickly spreads if not stopped by amputation.
