Baron Janosk Obour

A supporting character from the novel Baroness of Blood, Baron Janosk Obour was the former Baron of Kislova until he was killed by Baron Peto Casse. He was the father of Baroness Ilsabet Obour, Baron Mihael Obour, and Marishka Obour.

Biography

Baron Janosk was one of the Obour Family that ruled Kislova for generations. In his youth, he became close friends with Lord Jorani, then merely a peasant boy whom was eventually elevated to noble status and then lordship. Lord Iirani grew up as close advisor, family historian, and creator of poisons Baron Janosk and his troops regularly used on the battlefield.

As an adult, Baron Janosk was a good-natured ruler until rebellions of several provinces caused the eruption of Kislovan civil wars. In order to suppress the rebellions and assert his authority, Baron Janosk became a tyrant, clamping down on the rebellions with mass executions of rebel leaders and merciless rule. Baron Janosk hoped to pay for the civil war and to appease his conflict-hardened subjects with the invasion of Sundell, a nearby barony of considerable wealth. The invasion proved ill-advised, for Dark managed to deliver news of the invasion and allowed the military of Sundell to set a trap for the invaders. The army of Sundell in turn invaded Kislova and Nimbus castle.

In defeat, Baron Janosk demostrated a brave face. He brokered a deal to accept execution in return for Baron Peto Casse swearing to spare his allies and his family. Although Peto would've spared him, Baron Janosk insisted upon being decapitated in order to preserve face for his family in the eyes of the people. Mihael Obour became his heir in power, but Ilsabet Obour became his heir in ruthlessness and intellect. Janosk entrusted his revenge upon Peto to Islabet. Her loyalty and devotedness to revenge is what ultimately doomed Kislova, causing it to sink into the Demiplane of Dread.
